  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with liners.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter, then add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
  4. Add buttermilk, food coloring, and vanilla extract. Mix until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until smooth.
  6. Pour the batter into the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  7. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Let cool completely before frosting.
