  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sea salt for topping

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Divide the dough into pieces and wrap around mozzarella sticks, sealing the edges.
  6. Boil water in a large pot and add baking soda. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds on each side.
  7. Place pretzels on the baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with sea salt.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
