  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
  • 1/2 cup crushed candy canes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the egg and peppermint extract until well blended.
  4. Combine the flour and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix well.
  5. Divide the dough in half and add red food coloring to one half, mixing until desired color is achieved.
  6. Roll a small amount of each dough into a rope, then twist them together and shape into the form of a candy cane.
  7. Place on ungreased baking sheets and sprinkle with crushed candy canes.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden.
  9. Let cool on wire racks.
